The first roundtable organised by the UK Union Programme was held in July, and was chaired by Lord McDonald of Salford, former Permanent Secretary of the FCDO, and Dan Mulhall, former Irish ambassador to the UK and US. It brought together individuals from both countries with relevant experience in politics, the civil service and academia to discuss the future of British-Irish relations, the challenges and opportunities involved, and what might be required to help carry that vital, multi-faceted relationship forward in the years ahead.
